Game:
What Time is it Mr. Wolf |
|
|
The
Beavers line up at one end with Mr. Wolf at the opposite end of the
playing area with his back to the rest of the group. The children
advance together asking “What time is it Mr. Wolf?". The wolf
responds with any time (for each hour the children take one step forward.
ie. 2 O'clock is 2 steps forward) but when he calls
"Dinnertime", the children must run back to the starting line
without getting caught by the wolf. If the wolf catches someone then
that person also becomes a wolf. The last person left wins. |

mementos of the year (like awards, ribbons, a paper handprint, photos,
drawings, hand-written poems, scraps of fabric, sea shells, trinkets,
etc.) Make sure they realize that they will not see them for a long time! Using paint, permanent
markers, and/or glitter, tissue etc allow the BS to decorate their time

Things
we could put in a time capsule game: |
|
|
Sit
the Beaver Scout in a circle and ask them what they would put into a time
capsule. Start
with T – so the first Beaver Scout would have to think of something
beginning with T; next
I - so the next Beaver Scout
would have to think of something beginning with I and so on. Have
some ideas ready to help them if they get stuck! |

Prayer
and Close: |
One
sunny day two children called Billy and Betty were playing in their
grandmother’s garden.
They
had been told not to touch anything, but to play quietly with the ball.
Billy
was getting fed up as Betty could not always catch the ball properly (because
she was only six).
Billy
said “Come on let’s go dig in the flower beds”.
Betty
did not think this was a good idea, but because Billy was older than her she did
as she was told.
Billy
took a spade and a trowel from the garden shed and gave them it to Betty. They
were very heavy to carry.
They
walked down the garden to the flower beds and Billy took the spade and started
to dig. Soil and mud were going everywhere. Into Betty’s hair; down her back,
as she bent over trying to help with the digging. So she decided that she would
much rather pick the flowers.
But
Billy would not stop digging. “Where are you digging to?” asked Betty, “Is
it
Billy
suddenly stopped digging and shouted “Look there is something in here”.
They
both leant over and cleared the soil away. There in the ground was a tin box –
it looked like a very old tin with pictures of flowers on the top.
They
pull the box out of the ground and swiped away the soil.
Billy
couldn’t wait to open it, but Betty was a little more cautious.
Then
they heard their Grandmother calling to them. “Oh dear” said Billy “I bet
we get into trouble now”.
“What
have you been doing” asked Grandmother “Just look at all this soil”.
Betty
was upset, and was starting to cry.
“Don’t
cry” said grandmother “Show me what you have got there”.
They
showed her the tin box and she started to smile.
“I
know what that is” she said, and started to call the children’s mum from
inside the house.
“Come
and see what the children have found” she called out.
The
children’s mother came into the garden and she too started to smile. “Well I
know what you have found” she said.
Can
you guess what it is …….
ask
the Beaver Scouts to try to guess what the children had found.
“Oh
mum” said Billy “What is it?”
Their
mother sat down on the grass and pulled open the box. Inside there were lots of
small wrapped parcels.
“It
is my time capsule” she said. “I made this when I was your age Billy. It had
some of my special things in it. I put them in the box and then buried it, so
that in the future someone like you and Betty could find it”.
The
children sat on the grass with their mum and Grandmother and slowly opened each
of the parcels – their mum explained what some of the things were and why she
had thought they were so special. They all had a lovely afternoon.
Guess
what the children wanted to do next time they visited their grandmothers house
– I will give you a clue – it had something to do with a tin box ……..
