7TH BLACKPOOL BEAVERS

3-MONTH PROJECT PROGRAMME

Here are some programme ideas from the 7th Blackpool Colony

Each meeting has an opening ceremony and we nearly always close with a prayer that is relevant to the theme of the evening.

WEEK 1

Chinese New Year

Made Chinese Dragons/Played Chinese Whispers

I brought in 2 flavours of rice and instead of eating with forks we chose prawn crackers. This went down VERY WELL as lot of the boys had never even tried this food and in the end when we had run out they were crying for more.

WEEK 2

Music Night

Made musical instruments out of yoghurt pots/combs.

Elaine had bought some instruments and we put on a tape for them to play with to the music. Action tape song– The boys enjoyed this.

WEEK 3

Valentines Night

Cross-between love hearts and the body heart.  Did circuit training using skipping ropes, hoops, sat still etc.  Made Valentines biscuits. Made a game up of going to corners hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades.

This game taught the boys the suits of a pack of cards, which many had not seen. Those that were aware helped the others.  Made Valentines Biscuits- Tea biscuit, icing and liquorice shoe lace-loved it!

WEEK 4

Weather

We talked about the types of weather/brought in books to show pictures of clouds, rivers and how they were formed etc.  Made a weather clock from a paper plate.  Picked a story about weather

WEEK 5

Cold Climate

The theme was about cold places.  Did exercises to get warm.  Played a game about the winter and summer giving phrases on whether they were true or false and ran to different corners – the boys personalities came through with their quirky comments.  Dressing up game hats, scarves and had to try to eat with a knife and folk with gloves on.

WEEK 6

Cold (continued)

Two bases.

1.       Made a snow scene collage Snowman –snow-cotton wool, card and glitter etc

  1. Made snowmen from marshmallows, chocolate silver balls for eyes and buttons and sweet lace for scarf.  We had hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. Loved the drinks will this in again!

WEEK 7

Toys

Boys brought in their own toys.  Problem was that Game Boy games were being swapped but not given back at the end and other boys that did not have these became a little jealous and boys do not always share.  Many forgot their toys but we have a stock.

WEEK 8

Easter

Made Easter Bonnet Biscuits- digestive biscuit, icing 2 colours, sugar flowers, marshmallows and 100’s and 1000’s.

Boys designed 2 biscuits any way they wished.

Enjoyed this, as they did not have to copy my design.

Made a bunny holder for chocolate egg to sit in.

Easter run around game.  Good night!

WEEK 9
These next two weeks Elaine was away and Anne Clayton came to help.  I planned the nights myself.
Opening to introduce Anne and new boys that had joined. Boys put into two groups.

Table one made flower biscuits – digestive icing/sweet decorations 100’s 1000’s.

Table two made a park picture using old catalogues/coloured paper/straws etc. We then made a drink and put out the benches so they could have a type of picnic in the park

WEEK 10

Tonight was a get to know each other

Learning to play together. Different bases: -

Play dough Favourite base.

Colour in Elma Hedgehog.  Most of the boys coloured it brown.

Games egg and spoon/table tennis Ran wild round the room playing the games.

Word search Only a hand full did this and realized that it must be like working at school and as they were not forced to do it these easily walked past.

If I did this again I think that it may have to be a bit more structured as I think they thought they had the run of the room. They seemed to have had a good night.
