FUN DAY at BOWLEY

On the 2nd July the Beaver Scouts of West Lancashire joined together to have a Fun day at Bowley Scout Camp.

Each District arranged bases using ideas from the Challenge Badges – so that the Beaver Scouts attending could gain an award - as well as a Fun Day Badge.

Chorley

Base 1

Marbling - We used powder paint, water and oil in a tray and laid a piece of paper on top of  the water. The paper then soaked up the powder paint and made different patterns on the paper.

Base 2

Volcano's - For this we made volcano's from paper plates, put an empty film canister in the gap and filled it with bi-carbonate of soda, then we coloured some white vinegar with red food colouring and poured this over the bi-carb and watched it 'explode'

Base 3

Gunge -  This is baking powder and water mixed to a soft paste. Colour the water with food colouring, we used blue for one lot and yellow for the second. It's very deceiving is this stuff. It looks wet and soft - but try to pick it up and you need the strength of an elephant! Once it's in you hand if you squeeze it, it stays solid, open your hand and it turns to liquid and runs through your fingers.

We enjoyed the day and look forward to the next one. Whether we do the same bases remains to be seen as they were all very messy!!

The kids that came to the bases loved them though.
