Since
last September the Beaver
Scouts
of
Preston and District have been up to a number of things…
September
saw a District sleepover being held at Jubilee Base Waddecar.
7 boys and 3 girls attended, they had a walk around the site finding out
where everything was, some games, a sausage sizzle and marshmallow melt.
Crafts with a distinctly Thai flavour to them were done, making a link
with the World Jamboree happening later in the year.
Certificates and badges were presented in front of all the other campers
on site and parents came to take some exhausted young people straight after flag
break!
November saw another link to the World Jamboree with eight Colonies
attending a join in jamboree afternoon held at one of the local high school.
Many crafts and activities were again put on with a Thai / South East
Asian influence – kite making, flag trail, rice pictures, krathong making,
face painting and silkworm races to name but a few!
The District Challenge was won by 2nd Ribbleton who made
contact with a Beaver Scout Colony in
Canada
,
exchanging letters, stories, photos and programme ideas – an interesting
addition to the programme which hopefully will continue to be a source of
enjoyment and inspiration for the Colony.
The new programme has been started by a number of the Colonies and it has
been an absolute pleasure to present four Chief Scout Bronze Awards; I look
forward to present a great many more! The
leaders have taken the new programme on with gusto and some brilliant and varied
programmes have been developed which the Beaver
Scouts
have
thoroughly enjoyed.
Shortly some 250 Beaver
Scouts
and
Leaders will be visiting the
Museum
of
Science
and
Industry in
Manchester
; part of
the day will be taken up with a Myths and Monsters session organised by the
museum which promises to be a fantastical journey involving larger than life
magical creatures from ancient times through to the present day!
Another District Challenge is being prepared but we don’t want to spoil
the surprise or give the game away, so you’ll just have to watch this space!
